# About

Jim Jonah — how I work and why I write. Senior principal engineer, twenty-something years building the foundational systems other systems depend on.

I'm Jim Jonah. For twenty-something years I've built the systems other systems
depend on — identity, developer tools including editors, parsers and
interpreters, distributed platforms, e-commerce, advertising & marketing tools
and performance tooling. The domains may have changed but the goals are almost
always the same: build things that are fast, secure, maintainable, "just work",
and solve business problems.

## How I work

I'm hands-on by choice. I try to lead by setting a good example, writing code,
reviewing code, pairing with other developers to help spread the knowledge and
doing what it takes to unblock others — not by leading from a distance. Most of
what I'm proud of is infrastructure you never notice, because it just works.

## What I write about

Public writing is new for me. Most of what I work on is a trade secret — but
not all of it. The goal is to spread knowledge on the things that tripped me
up, so I can help others.
